Startup law is not working, expert lawyers say

The Startup Law is not working and the interest of entrepreneurs to take advantage of its benefits is declining, according to startup lawyers. After its approval at the beginning of 2023, the website that issues the certifications is still not working properly.

Miguel Ángel Márquez, director in the commercial area, comments in The Objective: "At the legislative level, regulations have been published that come into force and are not applicable, which is what has happened here. There has been a need to announce that Spain would become a hub of innovation, but it is the administration itself that has the exclusive capacity to certify what a startup is, and it is slow".

Our expert commercial lawyer also adds that, with regard to clients, it is not worth telling them about this system of the Startup Law because it is not yet operational, nor is it known when it will be. This makes it difficult to offer solutions that support the creation of innovation and technology companies.
