Opinion column: The legacy of women in law

María M. Pardo de Vera partner in the data protection and compliance department, talks in her opinion column about the legacy of being a woman in the legal profession. She does so in her article Mujeres por Derecho (Women by Right) published in Legal Today

María is optimistic about a profession in which women are still underrepresented in management positions: “an optimistic outlook and a focus on the future help us achieve our goals.” She adds that, despite the difficulties, “it's worth being here.”

Our lawyer talks about the legacy that can be left in the legal profession, paving the way for new generations: "we can change things. Sometimes they are small and sometimes they are big. I wish there were more of the latter. But they are changes, changes for the better. And with that, it's already very worthwhile.“ And on its transformative power: ”Law is transformative and has an impact on society, on our lives, and on the planet."

For all these reasons, on the role of women in the legal profession, she notes: “I no longer think only about presence or quotas. I think about what we leave behind. About the impact we make when we work with meaning and purpose.”
