The Economist&Jurist has published an interview with Esteban Ceca Gómez-Arevalillo, managing partner of CECA MAGÁN Abogados, in which he discusses the outlook and future of the legal sector, the keys to the firm's growth and the state of the market.
Regarding the firm's development and the latest addition of partner Pedro Soriano, he comments that he is a professional ‘with a portfolio of clients that are a good fit for the firm. The coming year will be full of new hires.’
Regarding growth, both in terms of turnover and staff, he emphasises the work done to attract and retain talent: ‘It is a planned growth in which our business development professionals are key. We invest just over 3% of our turnover in them because it is important to have a strong brand and be well known’.
Regarding the state of the market and forecasts for the coming months, he comments: "M&A transactions are going to recover from a weak first half; in fact, one of the sectors that is generating the most work is public and regulatory law. [...] The advent of technology will bring about significant changes in law firms, many of which already have a digital law practice area to advise clients on emerging technologies."
Finally, on the management of the firm and the keys to growth, Esteban notes: ‘It is important to manage the human capital we have and involve them in the project we have now underway. Firms must continue to be profitable and support our partners in their needs. Ideally, those who come should stay and those who are here should want to continue.’
