One of Trump's first decisions was to eliminate all policies on equality and diversity. Eliminating these measures may affect American companies operating in Spain, or even the suppliers of these companies, since not having equality and diversity policies may conflict with the Spanish regulatory framework.
Rocío Guerrero, manager in the labor area, commented in El País (for subscribers only) that “Spain is far ahead of other European countries in terms of regulations. It has regulated these obligations very intensely.”
She points out that here, “companies with more than 50 employees are required to have an equality plan, as well as a protocol to ensure non-discrimination against the LGTBI community or for other reasons.” She added the consequences of not having these policies in accordance with current regulations: “Companies that do not have these standards or that decide to waive them are exposed to a series of consequences ranging from administrative sanctions to the prohibition of public procurement, as well as the loss of Social Security benefits.”
