What happens if we receive an inheritance that we cannot afford?

Rafael Vallet, partner of the family area, participates in Cuatro al Día commenting on what happens if we receive an inheritance that we cannot assume, following the case of the soccer player José Antonio Reyes, who after his death four years ago, left an inheritance with mortgaged properties, something that has left his family on the verge of eviction.

What can be done in a case like this, in which the inheritance cannot be assumed? Our inheritance and succession lawyer explains in the program: "When the debts are greater than the assets, you can accept the inheritance in what is called for the benefit of inventory, in which you will never respond more than what you have inherited".

In a particular case like this one, in which the footballer's family cannot assume the inheritance he left, Vallet explains that what would have to be done would be "in any case, to try to negotiate with the creditors and sell the real estate". And when faced with the possibility of whether or not there could be an eviction, he adds: "eviction is the final result, once the property has been seized and is already owned by someone else".
